                               LIVING IN A DREAM WORLD

   It was the most beautiful spring day outside. Clear blue skies, the grass as green as it could possibly be, and blossoming flowers of every color the naked eye had probably ever seen. Well, that was what you had heard it was like. In fact, no matter how badly you would want to see it you couldn't, it could only be a faraway dream that was added to the many others you had.

Every one of your friends or acquaintances asked you how you got around and how you could just live in complete darkness, without even knowing what light looked like anymore. You would simply smile and tell them you didn't quite know what they meant by 'darkness'. Although, that wasn't entirely true. You once were able to see, but it was torn away one day in the most horrible way possibly thought by someone.

~~~FLASHBACK~~~
  It all happened when you were only a nine-year old,  and it all started when walking back from school with your best friend Alfred F. Jones. As you were walking, you could see a faint glimmer on the sidewalk. As curious as you always had to be, you felt the need to figure out what it was. Little did you know though, that 'glimmer' would hold your fate entirely. You slowly trudged over to the object to take a closer look.
"Hey Al! Come here! This looks totally cool!" You yelled to Alfred.
Alfred rushed over to your side and squatted down next to you.
"What the heck is that thing?" You asked Alfred.
" Well it looks like a rock. Woah dude, I think it could be a diamond! We could get rich off this thing!" He exclaimed with a goofy smile on his face.
You picked up the 'diamond' and smiled.
"Yeah, I bet it is! Wait, I have an awesome idea! You exclaimed.
You then got a  ripped a piece of string from your small kite you had made in class and tied the small diamond type rock onto it. You then had attempted to put it around your neck, but failed. Alfred took the necklace from your hands an proceeded to put it around your neck for you. After all, Arthur, Alfred's bigger brother, had always said being a gentleman was a good thing, and in Alfred's mind, this was what a gentleman would do, right? You smiled as you touched the small rock and turned to Alfred.
"Like it dude?" Alfred asked poking your cheek.
You smiled and nodded continuing on your way to your house.
  When you got home that day you put your backpack down only to find your father drinking once again.
"D-daddy? How was work? Did mom storm out again?" You silently asked your father, afraid he might lash out at you.
Yes, your father was always abusive to you, but you knew it wasn't really him doing it. You would always say that it was what he drank instead... that's not what your mother thought though. She knew it was your father's actions, and for that she hated him. Your mother only stayed with him because she didn't have time for the divorce papers, and since she was mostly at work the whole day. When she did come home, it was only for lunch breaks to make sure your father hadn't recklessly hurt himself, and to sleep. Somehow, your parents would always get into a fight one way or another, and it always ended with your mother storming out and your father continuing his useless antics of drinking.
Your father turned to you squinting, and got up from the couch he was sitting on, making several glasses of beer fall over and break.
"What's it to you, little shit?" You tried not to look hurt from his words, but you could still feel the tears coming.
'Why is he like this?' You would always think.
You somehow felt that it was because of all of the fights, with your mother saying he was a "Lazy oaf with a horrible paying job."
Your thinking quickly ended when you felt a slap across your face. "It's all your fault! You're the reason she's so mad! You put so much stress on her!" You shut your eyes trying to hold back your fear from showing. You knew that wasn't true, that you weren't the cause of the fighting and storming out. You hadn't even talked with your mother for a week. She would be so tired from work that she would just go lie down in her room and sleep, forgetting to tuck you in or sing you a lullaby so you could sleep. You managed though, and always found some way to fall asleep.
   Suddenly, you felt the string holding your rock being ripped off your neck. Your eyes shot open and you tried to grab it.
"No! Alfred and I found that! Please give it back!" But your request was not sought through, and you saw your father raise it high in the air.
"Hmm. What's this? It looks like a rock. Why are you wearing such filth?" He said.
You jumped in the air to try and grab it, but your father pushed you down with just enough force to send you flying towards a wall, and landed, hitting your head very hard. Apparently, you had hit a wall with a glass shelf holding your family portraits on it, and due to the impact, the glass shelf fell, along with the portraits making everything shatter into pieces.
"This is stupid junk, I hate it."
And with that your father threw the necklace at the floor and laughed hysterically. You watched as your necklace hit the hit the floor, making your face scrunch together with anger and hurt.
"STOP IT!" You yelled, loud enough to make sure it reached your father's ears. Your father then walked up,  face full of fury, and took a handful of the glass that had shattered.
"Look at what you do. You make everything just shatter into pieces! Go to hell little shit!" With that, your father threw the glass he was holding at you, and in seconds, the shattered glass hit your eyes.
You started screaming, but your father only walked away. As you heard him leave, you hurriedly got up and searched for the door, getting to it and trying to open the door with all your might, because due to how much blood had filled your eyesight, it had seemed that it was impossible. Finally after your multiple tries, you managed to turn the knob, and quickly ran to the only house you knew would help you. Alfred's house. Thanking god it was only a few houses down and barely making it to the front door without falling, you shouted and started to bang at the door. The door swung open and that's when everything went dark and your final moments of seeing were gone.
~~~END OF FLASHBACK~~~

That was 10 years ago, and you were now 19. When you had woken up after that accident, you couldn't see, and the doctor told you your eyes may never work again because of the infection the glass had made and the deep cuts that were made in your pupils. He told you that Alfred had saved you though, and that he had opened the door when you had fainted, and quickly called 911. You had been friends with Alfred still, and you knew he had accepted you as you now were. He now always came over and told you about his day, about all the friends he had made and how one of his best friend's 'Gil' acted. He would even read you books, and help you study what you didn't understand at your special homeschooling classes.

Oh, and soon after your mother had found out about the accident, she divorced your father, and befriended the doctor who had been at your aid. They soon started dating, and after that, they shortly married. Leaving you with a now beautiful family. You were very happy, but you still wanted to see the world again. Alas, it could only be a dream.

You sighed and a loud knock interrupted you form your thoughts.

"Come in." You said loudly, so the person outside the door could hear it clearly. You heard the door open and someone make quick footsteps toward you as they embraced you in a tight hug.

"Hiya _______!"  You chuckled instantly realizing who it was.

"Hey Al. How was school?" You asked cheerfully, not trying to sound too depressed over what you were just thinking about.

"Eh, same as always. Arthur came back today though and asked if he could see you."

"That would be wonderful! Where is he?" You felt around Alfred to see if there was someone by him but there was no sign of anyone. Alfred laughed and told you he was talking to your mother and father. (*AN: REMEMBER YOUR NEW DAD NOT YOUR OLD ONE!*)

"Oh okay." You said smiling.

"Hey _______, I saw this place the other day and wanted to show it to you! It's totally epic!" He said grabbing your hand and pulling you up.

He picked you up, throwing you over his shoulder and laughed. You were startled, but you had gotten used to it over the years since Alfred had made it a habit apparently thinking it was okay now, since you were blind. You couldn't blame him though, it was hard for you to follow someone since you would trip all the time.

"Al! What about your brother?!" You questioned.

"Forget him let's just go! You can just say hi when we leave!" And with that, he scrambled out of your house. It was hard, but you did manage to say a quick hello before you basically flew out of the house. Alfred put you in what seemed to be his car, judging by the feel of leather and the scent of burgers. He put the key in the ignition, turned it, and before you knew it, you were heading towards...well, wherever Alfred was taking you.
